Catherine Fox practices primarily in the areas of Family Law and Wills & Estates. She was called to the Bar in Alberta in 1989, having articled at the City of Calgary Law Department. She attended the University of Calgary, first obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and, secondly, a law degree in 1988. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC), Learned at the Law, in March 2020.
Catherine has extensive experience in all areas of family law, including divorce and parenting arrangements, including parenting time, decision making responsibility and contact orders (formerly known as Custody and Access), child and spousal support, property law, separation agreements, common law property agreements, pre-marriage contracts, adoption (including spousal adoption) and private guardianship matters. She is a trained mediator, a trained Collaborative Law Lawyer and will soon be a trained arbitrator. She also represents children. In her ongoing commitment to ensure financial circumstances alone do not dictate an individual’s access to the courts, she continues to accept Legal Aid referrals regarding children only.
Catherine is also extensively involved in community work, both inside and outside of the legal community. Commencing in law school, she has volunteered at the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, Student Legal Assistance at the University of Calgary, Calgary Legal Guidance, the Kerby Centre, the Animal Rescue Foundation and the Legal Education Society of Alberta. She is currently a volunteer at the Womens’ Centre, and also is a Dispute Resolution Officer.
