Cindy M. Marshall

Cindy M. Marshall

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Cindy is a bilingual (French and English) lawyer from Thompson, Manitoba. She has an undergraduate degree from Brandon University in French Literature and music as well as a Baccalauréat en Droit from the Common Law en Français program at Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Cindy's legal experience began while working as a hearings' officer summer student at Citizenship and Immigration in Vancouver, British Columbia and articling and practicing law at the Department of Justice in its Legal Excellence Program, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. While at the Department of Justice, she gained valuable legal experience in the areas of Immigration Law, Tax Litigation, Civil Litigation and Criminal Prosecutions. As an articling student and first year lawyer, she spent her free time playing club rugby and competing on the Manitoba Provincial Rugby Team.

In July 2004, she moved to Calgary because she was invited to try the sport of bobsleigh. She made the Canadian National Team and competed for Canada internationally from winter 2004 until winter 2009. Along with her change in province, she made the move to family law.

In addition to her legal and athletic accomplishments, while practicing family law, Cindy spent several years as an athlete advocate, advocating for her fellow athletes within the Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton program and internationally with the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT).

Since her retirement from sport, Cindy puts all of her energy into her advocacy talents and assists clients who are litigating family law disputes in the Provincial Court Family Division as well as the Court of Queen's Bench. In her opinion, however, litigation should be a last resort and she will always encourage her clients to first attempt to resolve their disputes though alternate means, such as mediation, arbitration and the Judicial Dispute Resolution Process.

Her passion for and dedication to resolving family law disputes, her direct style as well as her drive to help her clients move on with their lives, enable Cindy to provide high quality, well-reasoned, knowledgeable and realistic legal services.
